  • Registering A Funeral

Any death needs to be registered at the local Registrar's office, or any Registrar's Office of your choosing, within 5 days.  Upon registration, documents will then be provided to you so that you can start arranging for the funeral.  The logging of the death is usually overseen by a family member but anyone present at the death can carry it out, as well as the owner of the premises where the death occurred or anyone responsible for organising the funeral.  Information about the deceased will be required in order to process the registration as well as relevant documentation.  Among other documents, a Certificate for Burial or Cremation will be offered upon processing of the registration, and this can be used to arrange the funeral.

  • Arranging A Funeral

Upon registration and the selection of a funeral director, you will then need to either phone / email / visit the funeral home to begin the process of arranging the funeral.  Several members of the family can be present during the discussion and David C Rivett Family Funeral Directors can carry out a home visit if required.  We must stress that there is no pressure to get every detail ironed out during this initial consultation.  The funeral needs to be right for you as well as the deceased and you can take your time during this process to make sure it is.  We will help in any way we can.

  • After A Funeral

Once the funeral has taken place, there will likely be outstanding concerns that need to be addressed.  If it is a cremation, you will be free to pick up the remains usually 1 working day after cremation or - alternatively - we can hold the remains until you are ready to pick them up.  If it is a burial, we can lay a temporary grave marker until a headstone has been finalised.  There will also be other practical issues to tie up, including the sale of any property, the closing of bank accounts, the distribution of clothing and possessions etc that you will need to address.

  • Bereavement Support

There are many different organisations to give help and support and specialist advice suited to your needs.
